The Colorado State men’s golf team defeated the University of Colorado 6-4 Sunday in the inaugural State of Colorado Cup matches at Ballyneal Golf Club in Holyoke.
The Rams won two of three four-ball (best-ball) matches and four of seven singles matches in the Ryder Cup-style competition that opened the 2009-10 college season.
Riley Arp and Ryan Peterson went 2-0 on the day for CSU, which returns all but one of its top players from last season. Sebastian Heisele was the lone Buff to win both his four-ball and singles matches.
CU won four of the first six scheduled matches, but lost the last four. Peterson scored the go-ahead point for Colorado State in defeating redshirt freshman Jason Burstyn 2 and 1. Arp, who was tied going into the last two holes, then assured the Rams the overall win by beating CU freshman Derek Fribbs 1 up.
