Two previous CWGA champions battled it out for the 2008 CWGA Match Play title. Kristin Walla of Aspen GC, the 2004 Junior Stroke Play champion, did not need the full 36-hole match to defeat 2001 Match Play champion Lynette Duran of Foothills GC. Number two seed Walla claimed the title and the trophy with a 5 and 4 win over the fifth-seeded Duran. Although Duran went up early in the match, made an amazing chip-in for eagle on hole six, and proceeded to eagle the 12th hole twice, Walla dominated the match through her steady play. Walla birdied nine holes and only bogeyed three en route to her victory. Duran handily beat Cierro Ko of Valley Hi GC in quarterfinals and Shannon Donegan of Wellshire GC to reach the semifinal round. In the semifinals, Lynette had to get past Ashley Tait, the 2008 CWGA Stroke Play champion. The match was decided when Duran holed a four-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win 1 up. On the other side of the bracket, Walla defeated Malou Gronning of Saddle Rock GC, Maggie Boberg of Fox Hollow GC, and Janet Moore of Cherry Hills CC for the chance to face Duran.
In the senior division, Cindy Pallatino of Colorado AvidGolfer Club defeated 2006 Senior Division champion Kathy Malpass of Hiwan GC 1 up to gain her first CWGA individual championship title. The two played a tight match throughout the round where either player was 1 up or all square. Pallatino won the 17th hole putting herself 1 up going into number 18. Malpass could not par the par 5 18th hole to send the match into extra holes. Both bogeyed the hole and Pallatino prevailed. To reach the finals, Malpass defeated Mary Smith of the Executive Women’s Golf Association and Marie Driessen of Heritage Eagle Bend G&CC. Pallatino came through the bracket by beating Kay Griffel of The Meadows GC and 2005 Senior Division champion Lynn Larson of The Pinery CC.
Becca Huffer of Overland Golf Course earned medalist honors with a one-under par score of 72 during the stroke play qualifying round. In the senior division, Marie Driessen of Heritage Eagle Bend G&CC shot a 76 to be named senior medalist.
