Nolan Martin of Gleneagle Golf Club, who will join the CSU golf team this fall, carded a 71 in the final round to hold off a charging Derek O’Neill of Lone Tree to win the CGA State Public Links Championship at Indian Peaks Golf Course by one stroke. O’Neill, who began the day three strokes behind Martin, pulled even with him on the back nine en route to a final round of 69. O’Neill rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-five 17th, only to have Martin drop a birdie on top of his to stay in a tie. Both players hit to about 15 feet on the 18th green, and Martin’s two-putt for par was enough to win as O’Neill’s par putt slid just past the hole. Martin, who fired the course record 63 Saturday, finished at 12-under 204 for the championship, and O’Neill finished at 205. Taking third place was Marc Hocking of Valley Hi Golf Course, who finished at six-under 210, one stroke ahead of Michael Glaesel of Indian Tree Golf Course, who placed fourth at 211.
