Eighteen Coloradans began play Tuesday in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships, one of the most prestigious junior tournaments there is.
And a couple of locals are near the top of the leaderboards in the San Diego area.
Davis Bryant, the Colorado State University-bound golfer from Aurora, fired a 1-under-par 71 in the boys 15-18 division at the South Course at Torrey Pines. The 2017 Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Boys Player of the Year made four birdies, one bogey and one double bogey and stands in seventh place out of 212 players, three strokes behind co-leaders Adam Thorp of Australia and Ben Lorenz of Peoria, Ariz., with three rounds remaining. (Bryant is pictured, in a white shirt, with fellow Coloradan Cal McCoy, who shot a 76 on Tuesday.)
And in the girls 9-10 division, Hadley Ashton from Erie shot a 2-under-par 70 at the Sycuan Resort and sits in third place. Ashton carded five birdies and three bogeys and trails co-leaders Inseoul Jiamanukoonkit of Thailand and Gianna Clemente of Warren, Ohio by one with two rounds left.
