One player with strong Colorado connections is in position to advance to the final stage of Web.com Tour Q-school — and another is very close — as a stage 2 tournament in Beaumont, Calif., reached the halfway point on Wednesday.
Jim Knous (left) of Englewood, a former Colorado School of Mines golfer who finished second in the 2010 CGA Amateur, sits in 12th place out of 77 players after two rounds. A 2-under-par 70 on Wedneday puts him at 8-under 136, which leaves him five strokes behind leader Andrew Yun of Chandler, Calif.
Knous made four birdies and two bogeys on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, University of Colorado senior Jeremy Paul shares 20th place after matching Knous’ 70, good for a 138 total. Paul was 6 under par for the day through 10 holes before going 4 over the rest of the round.
The top 19 finishers and ties after four rounds will advance to the third and final stage of Q-school, Anyone who makes the final stage — set for Dec. 8-11 in Winter Garden, Fla. — will be guaranteed at least conditional status on the 2017 Web circuit.
