This past weekend seven Denver Area Council Boy Scouts took part in a two-day event to earn merit badges at CommonGround golf course in Aurora. Led by Director of Youth Programs, Erin Gangloff, participants spent the first day learning the game and the rules of play. The second day, the scouts played the par 3 kids course and at the end were awarded their merit badges.
In its second year partnership with the CGA and CommonGround Golf Course, the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts has sent over 25 boys to the program to earn merit badges. This past weekend was the fourth session this season, doubling their efforts from last year. The scouts are not all from the same troop which encourages them to make connections to other Boy Scouts in the Denver area while learning and playing the game.
After the completion of this program, the scouts are encouraged to return to CommonGround Golf Course where access to the par 3 kids course and use of clubs provided by the CGA are all free of charge. The CommonGround kids course hosts more than 1,200 free rounds of golf to any Colorado youth 18 and under.
