University of Colorado junior Jeremy Paul fired a 4-under-par 68 and shares the lead after Monday’s opening round of the men’s NCAA Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Regional.
The native of Germany made an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys at the Ol’ Colony Golf Course, and is tied for the top spot with two University of Georgia players, Greyson Sigg and Zach Healy. Paul (pictured), who has finished in the top 10 seven times this season, is ranked 42nd in the nation among college players by Golfstat.
In all, a dozen players broke par Monday in the Tuscaloosa Regional.
In the team competition, CU sits in seventh place in the 13-team field. After Wednesday’s final round, the top five team finishers, and the low individual not on those teams, will advance to the NCAA finals, set for May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.
The Buffs posted an 8-over-par 296 total and trails leader Georgia, the SEC champion and top seed in the regional, by 12 strokes. CU is four strokes behind fifth-place Alabama, the host team.
CU is attempting to qualify a full team for the NCAA Finals for the first time since 2002.
