Ben Lanting of Bear Creek Golf Club, the Colorado PGA’s 2018 Associate Player of the Year, and Jordan Gibbs of Denver Country Club matched 1-under-par 71s on Thursday and share 17th place out of 132 players after the opening round of the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Lanting, who won the Colorado PGA Assistants Championship at the end of July, made an eagle, three birdies and four bogeys at the PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course.
Gibbs, meanwhile, carded three birdies and two bogeys on the day.
The two trail leader Kenny Pigman of Norco, Calif., by five strokes with three rounds left in the tournament. The field will be cut to the low 70 players and ties after 36 holes.
