Strong Showing

The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs finished third on Wednesday at the PGA Jones Cup, the national championship for PGA Professional Golf Management programs that help train aspiring PGA professionals.

UCCS, which sat one stroke out of the lead after Tuesday’s first round of the 18-team competition at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., posted scores of 300 and 305 for a 29-over-par 605 total.

Florida Gulf Coast University won the event at 590, while Clemson (604) edged UCCS for second place.

Individually, Shea Wolfle of Campbell and Chris Gabriele of Clemson tied for the title at 2-under-par 142, with Wolfle closing with a 67.

UCCS put two players in the top four in the individual standings, with Bradley Myers (68-77) and Nick Michas (74-71) tying for third place at 145.

The other UCCS scores were a 153 for Matthew Weiss, a 162 for William Veith and a 165 for Deven Doughty.
