Two current or former Coloradans share the lead at separate Web.com Tour First Stage Q-school events that started on Tuesday.
Wyndham Clark, who grew up in the Denver metro area, shot a 5-under-par 66 in Nebraska City, where the top 24 finishers and ties after four rounds will advance to the Second Stage of Q-school. And Tom Kalinowski, a former resident of Durango, opened with a 7-under-par 63 in San Diego, where the top 23 finishers and ties move on to Stage 2.
Kalinowski made eight birdies and a bogey on Tuesday and is tied for the lead with Alex Chiarella of San Diego. Also in the top 20 at the site after round 1 is former University of Colorado golfer Jeremy Paul, who played in a dozen Web.com Tour events in 2017. Paul shares 12th place at 67.
Meanwhile, in Nebraka City, Clark (pictured) went bogey-free for his 66, making five birdies. Clark, the Pac-12 champion and a finalist for national college player of the year, played in five PGA Tour events and one Web.com tournament this past summer. Also firing a 66 on Tuesday was Brandon Krick of McCook, Neb. Likewise at the site, former CU golfer Justin Bardgett opened with a 68, good for a tie for third place.
Seven more First Stage tournaments are scheduled for next week.
The Second Stage of Web Q-school will be held at five sites between Oct. 31-Nov. 7, and the Final Stage Dec. 7-10 in Chandler, Ariz.
