Wes Weber of Johnstown and Katelyn Lehigh of Loveland scored victories on Sunday in the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado’s 14-18 Junior Series Championship at Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club in Windsor.
In the last of three Junior Series Championships held in the last week, Weber posted a two-stroke win in the boys tournament and Lehigh prevailed by six in the girls event.
Weber scored his first JGAC win of the year after carding scores of 75-74 for a 5-over-par 149 total. The 17-year-old recorded five birdies over the course of 36 holes and played his first 15 holes on Sunday in 1 under par.
Beam Boonta of Centennial, who started Sunday’s final round by going 4 under par in his first six holes, placed runner-up at 151 after a 72 on Sunday. Mario Dino of Denver and Tyler Mulligan of Parker tied for third at 152, with Dino closing with a 75 and Mulligan with a 77. Dino followed up birdies on the 10th and 11th hole with a hole-in-one at No. 12 on Sunday.
In the girls tournament, Lehigh shot rounds of 79-76 for an 11-over-par 155 total. Part of the Hale Irwin Elite Player Program at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Lehigh made three birdies in two days in scoring her fourth JGAC win of the season. Lehigh came into the Junior Series Championship as the season-long leader in the 14-18 Series girls points list.
Eva Pett of Denver finished second at 161 after closing with a 79. Anju Ogi of Arvada was third at 164 after likewise shooting a 79 on Sunday.
The Junior Series Championships for younger kids were held in the past week. Winning titles in the 11-13 year-old tournaments were Gage Messingham of Arvada and Sofia Choi of Littleton. For the 10 & under tournaments, the champions were Andre Dumonteil of Centennial and Ashleigh Wilson of Highlands Ranch.
