End of the Line

The University of Colorado and Colorado State University teammates competing in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship saw their runs end on Tuesday after making it to the match play round of 16 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

CU’s Brittany Fan and Esther Lee, who shared medalist honors in the stroke-play portion of the event at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, fell 3 and 2 in the round of 16 to Georgians Sammi Lee and Mary Ellen Shuman. Fan and Lee were 3 under for 16 holes and had the match all square through 10. But Lee and Shuman won three of the next five holes — two with birdies and one with par — to take command.

Meanwhile, 20th-seeded Katrina Prendergast and Ellen Secor of CSU were ousted 4 and 3 by fourth-seeded Bailey Tardy of Norcross, Ga., and Monica Vaughn of Reedsport, Ore. Prendergast and Secor won the first hole with a birdie and were just 1 down after nine, at which point they were 6 under par. But Tardy and Vaughn birdied two of the next three holes and closed out the match on No. 15, which was halved with birdies. Prendergast and Secor were 4 under par for 15 holes.
