Jim Knous of Englewood will compete in the final stage of Web.com Tour Q-school next week, and on Friday he put himself in a good frame of mind heading into that event by winning a mini-tour tournament in El Campeon, Fla.
The former Colorado School of Mines golfer prevailed by seven strokes against a small field in a Swingthought Tour Florida Series tourney.
Knous, who finished fourth in this year’s CoBank Colorado Open, shot rounds of 72-70-72 for a 2-under-par 214 total in Florida.
In other mini-tour action this week, former Colorado State University golfer Riley Arp finished fourth in a Dreamchasers Pro Golf Tour event in Mesa, Ariz. Arp posted rounds of 68-73-65 for a 7-under-par 206 total, leaving him four behind champion Riley Wheeldon.
And former University of Colorado golfer Josh Creel, like Knous set for the Web.com Q-school finals next week, tied for third in an Adams Pro Tour Winter Series tournament in Kingwood, Texas. Creel went 72-69 for a 3-under 141 total, ending up five behind winner Curtis Reed.
