Brandt Jobe certainly didn’t have anything close to the final round he was looking for, but the Colorado Golf Hall of Famer still played well enough to post his sixth top-10 finish of the season on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.
The former Colorado Open winner shared the lead going into Sunday’s final round of the PowerShares QQQ Championship, the first Champions playoff event ever. But a 5-over-par 77 Sunday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., cost Jobe an opportunity for his first Champions victory.
After a 41 on the front nine that featured two double bogeys, Jobe rallied a bit with three birdies on the back side — including a long pitch-in on No. 10. He posted a 6-under-par 210 total, which left him seven strokes behind champion Tom Pernice Jr.
Jobe easily advanced — along with 53 other players — to the second tournament of the three-event Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. That event will be the Dominion Charity Classic next week in Richmond, Va., where the top 36 finishers will qualify for the season-ending Charles Cup Championship the following week in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Jobe ranks 24th in Charles Schwab Cup points and 25th on the 2016 money list with $748,764.
