Dustin Mills of Broomfield and David Oraee of Greeley shot subpar scores Wednesday in the opening round of a Web.com Pre-Qualifying tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
Mills carded seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in a 3-under-par 68 that leaves him tied for third place out of a field of 76.
Oraee, the 2015 CGA Les Fowler Player of the Year, posted a 70 and shares 11th place. The former University of Colorado golfer made two birdies and one bogey.
After Friday’s final round, the top 38 finishers and ties will earn spots into the First Stage of Web.com Q-school. Also inside that cut line after day 1 were Beau Schoolcraft of Denver (71, 22nd place) and Miller Capps of Denver (72, 33rd place).
Including Pre-Qualifyiong, there are four stages in Web.com Q-School. The top 45 finishers and ties from the final stage will have some level of regular status on the 2017 Web.com Tour (depending on how high they finish). Others who complete all 72 holes will have conditional status.
Two more Pre-Qualifying tournaments are scheduled Sept. 7-9.
