Bandon Dunes–Bound

Congratulations to Ted Eckles (pictured right with Solich Acdemy caddie Nathan Cameron), winner of the CGA’s Dream Golf Vacation for Two to Bandon Dunes raffle. Eckles, a Denver/Winter Park resident and member of Pole Creek Golf Club, couldn’t be more excited.

“I can’t believe it,” said Eckles who received the call last Tuesday after his winning ticket number was drawn. “This is so exciting! I never thought I’d win – I bought $100 worth of tickets (5) to support the caddie program.  I am an avid golfer and supporter of junior programs. I really like getting the kids involved in the game.”

The raffle, conducted by the CGA, raised $26,320.00 (100% of sales) to support the Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy which creates opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills and enhance character through a foundation built around caddying.  The CGA extends its gratitude to everyone who purchased tickets and supported the program.

“It’s great that the raffle raised so much for the caddies,” explained Eckles, “And I’ve wanted to go to Bandon Dunes for years. In fact, two of my buddies went earlier this year and didn’t take me. ” Eckles smiled, “They were the first ones I texted to rub it in.”

So who will be taking? His wife had first right of refusal, and she told him to take a friend who would really appreciate walking six rounds in three days at Bandon Dunes. “So I have a buddy that’s ready to go and is really, really excited.”

It’s fitting that the grand prize includes $1,200 in caddie fees – as Eckles and his guest will have their own caddies for all 6 rounds. There are no carts at Bandon Dunes which is world famous for ‘golf as it was meant to be.’

In addition to six round of golf, the grand prize package includes three nights lodging, meal vouchers and travel vouchers. And getting there has never been easier now that United flies direct to North Bend from Denver.

“We’ll be taking the direct flight from Denver on United for sure,” said Eckles. “I’m ready – I’ve worked hard this year on my game and have dropped five strokes off my handicap. I’ve never been more prepared to appreciate and experience like Bandon Dunes. I’ve already been online checking weather reports up there. I’m ready to go.”

Eckles plans to go this September and redeem the grand prize he just won, but the real winners are the students of the Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy.
