Nick Nosewicz of Aurora shared the individual lead for a time on Tuesday and ended up in 20th place after the opening round of the 50th Pacific Coast Amateur at Seattle Golf Club.
The 2015 CGA Match Play champion was 3 under par through 14 holes, but bogeyed his last four to finish round 1 at 1-over-par 73.
With Nosewicz leading the way, the CGA team shares ninth place at the halfway point of the Morse Cup, which features 15 teams from the western U.S. and Canada. The top two scores from each squad each day count toward the team total. After day 1, Colorado stands at 7-over-par 151. Southern California leads the way at 140.
That team competition will conclude on Wednesday, while the individual portion of the tournament will continue through Friday.
As for the other Coloradans at the Pac Coast, Jon Lindstrom of Broomfield opened with a 6-over-par 78 (good for 63rd place individually), while University of Denver golfer Chris Korte of Littleton posted a 79 (69th place).
