The team representing the CWGA sits in 14th place after Tuesday’s opening round of the Girls Junior America’s Cup tournament at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto, Calif.
Counting the best three scores of the four-player squad, the Coloradans posted a 26-over-par 242 total. They trail leader Arizona by 19 strokes in the 54-hole tournament, which features 18 teams from the western U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The CWGA squad placed 10th in last year’s GJAC.
This year’s team is one of the youngest Colorado has fielded for the Girls Junior America’s Cup, with three of the four representatives being 15 or younger.
Individually, Jaclyn Murray of Grand Junction and Amy Chitkoksoong of Aurora led the way for the CWGA on Tuesday, posting scores of 8-over-par 80, good for a share of 31st place. Caroline Jordaan of Cherry Hills Village had an 82 (47th place) and Hailey Schalk of Erie an 83 (51st place).

Kerstin Fotu of Utah leads the way individually at 1-under-par 71.
