The historic first “major” of the inaugural season of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado will take place next week, with both boys and girls championships on tap at the same site.
The Colorado Junior Amateur Championship, a 54-hole stroke-play event, is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday (June 13-15) at Eisenhower Golf Club’s Blue Course at the Air Force Academy.
The Colorado Junior Amateur is an outgrowth of the CGA and CWGA Junior Stroke Play Championships.
Among those in the boys field will be several players who finished in the top 10 at this week’s AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior at Highlands Ranch Golf Club: Trevor Olkowski of Grand Junction (second in AJGA), Timothy Amundson of Littleton (eighth) and David Leede of Greenwood Village (ninth).
Also entered is Coby Welch of Highlands Ranch, the 2015 CGA Junior Player of the Year, 4A state high school champion Jackson Solem of Longmont, and 2015 Colorado PGA Junior Champinship winner Cole Krantz of Windsor.
In the girls championship, Mary Weinstein of Highlands Ranch, the 2015 CWGA Junior Player of the Year, is entered. Weinstein won the final CWGA Junior Stroke Play and claimed the title last month in the 5A state high school championship. Also in the field are Amy Chitkoksoong of Aurora, the 2015 CWGA Junior Match Play winner and last month’s 5A state high school runner-up; Erin Sargent of Longmont, the 4A state champion and a 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifier; Caroline Jordaan of Cherry Hills Village, the 2015 Colorado PGA Junior Champion and last month’s 4A state high school runner-up; and Hailey Schalk of Erie and Lauren Lehigh of Loveland, like Jordaan posted top-10 finishes in the AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior.
