Killed in Accident

Mick Brethower, a former Coloradan who played his senior season of college golf at the University of Colorado, died Saturday after piloting a plane that crashed near Austin, Texas, according to authorities. He would have turned 55 on Tuesday.

Also killed in the crash was Hubert Davis, a flight instructor and the co-pilot on the training flight.

Brethower grew up in Evergreen and transferred to CU from Arkansas. He had the Buffs’ second-best stroke average as a senior in 1983-84.

Brethower played for the Colorado amateur team in the 1983 Colorado Cup matches. He moved to Texas in 1987 and worked in the mutual fund industry.

A celebration of Brethower’s life is planned for Thursday in his hometown of Georgetown, Texas.
