Kim Eaton of Riverdale GC and Melissa Martin of Bookcliff CC finished the final round of the 2010 CWGA Mashie Championship 5 and 4 over Cindy Pallatino and Kelly Schaub, both of CommonGround GC, to clinch the Mashie title. Eaton and Martin, the number one seed in this year’s tournament, birdied four of seven holes on the front nine giving them a 6 up advantage on Pallatino and Schaub. Pallatino and Schaub were able to narrow the gap to 5 up on the eleventh hole, but Eaton and Martin’s tough play proved to be too much. Eaton and Martin captured the Mashie title after 14 holes. For Eaton, it was a relief to finally come out on top after finishing in the runner-up position in seven different years (each with Pallatino as her partner).
On the road to the final match, Eaton and Martin beat Marianne Ceriani of Rolling Hills CC and Beverly Hoffenberg of Pinehurst CC in the quarterfinal, 7 and 6, while Pallatino and Schaub won 4 and 3 over Beth Clippinger of Wellshire GC and Chris Gingrich of South Suburban GC. During the semifinal round, Eaton and Martin went on to score another victory over D’Ann Kimbrel and Stacey Arnold, both of Willis Case GC, 3 and 2. Pallatino and Schaub had a very close semifinal match against defending Mashie champions Janet and Sarah Moore of Cherry Hills CC, but they squeaked through with a 2 and 1 win.
This is the first Mashie win for both Kim Eaton and Melissa Martin. Martin is the defending CWGA Stroke Play Champion while Eaton is the defending CWGA Senior Stroke Play Champion.
