CSU player Nolan Martin of Springs Ranch Golf Club completed one of the most remarkable CGA championship performances by firing his second consecutive four-under 67 in the final round of the CGA State Public Links Championship to win the title by one of the largest margins in the championship’s history. At the challenging Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Martin was the only player to finish under par””and he finished WAY under par. Martin finished with a 13-under total of 200, and his third round 67 was the lowest score of the day. In fact, Martin fired the lowest round each day of the event (66 in the first round and 67 in the second round) to earn a wire to wire 13-stroke victory. This is Martin’s second CGA Public Links title (he won in 2002), and it is the fourth year in a row he has finished in the top three. Martin’s performance has helped earn him an invitation to represent the CGA (along with Rick DeWitt and Derek Tolan ) in the 2004 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship to be held August 3-6 at Eugene County Club, Eugene, Oreg.
Jim Grady of Omni Interlocken carded a final round 68 to move into second place at even-par 213. Michael Glaesel of Indian Tree Golf Course fired a 69 to move into a five-way tie for third place at 215 with Dustin Mills of Indian Tree Golf Course, Henry Bissell of Wellshire Golf Course, Charlie Soule of Ute Creek Golf Course, and Dan Silva of South Suburban Golf Course.
