The team of Michael Davis and Jeff Lauretti (pictured) of The Ridge at Castle Pines North fired back-to-back 67’s to win the CGA State Two-man Team Championship by three strokes at Twin Peaks Golf Course. Their consistent play was the key to staying in front of two tough teams representing two of Colorado’s biggest universities. CSU’s James Kurtenbach and John Hayes of South Suburban Golf Course fired a 66 in the first round, but their second round 71 slid them into a tie second place. CU’s Kane Webber and teammate Stephen Carroll (just graduated) of Sunset Golf Course improved on their first round 70 by firing a final round 67 to move into a tie for second at 137 with Kurtenbach and Hayes. Charles Soule and Jason Coffin took fourth place at 142.
In the Senior Division, Bob Heiny and Bill Boyd of Highland Hills defended their title by firing back-to-back 68’s to finish at 136 and win their second consecutive title by two strokes. Doug Jones and Frank Wilkinson of Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction fired a 66 in their first round, but faltered in their second round (72) to fall into a second place tie at 138 with Scott Radcliffe and Sean Forey of Rolling Hills Country Club (69-69).
